Desiree Span was born in the Netherlands, but left her country at the age of six, when her parents were sent abroad as expats. She’s lived in South America, in Mexico, the U.S.A., and on the beautiful island of Curaçao, which has led her to speak fluent Dutch, Spanish, English and Papiamento.

Having moved around a lot has given Desiree a passion for traveling and a strong interest in getting to know different cultures, people, and the stories they have to tell.

In 1996, she enrolled at the university to study law, however she quickly transferred to Film and Performing Arts at the Radboud University, where she received her master’s degree. After taking on several jobs, including as a casting agent, she decided to acquire a bachelor's degree in English. During her studies she took courses of literature, poetry, narratology, and screenwriting and she wrote several screenplays, and short stories. She fell in love with the art of writing, and when she’s not teaching English to her high school students, she can be found behind her laptop: working on a new, compelling story.

In 2018, Desiree’s beautiful and heart-breaking novella, For my Sister, and her captivating first full-length romance novel,

Oliver and Erica, were published by Amsterdam Publishers. In 2022 Desiree founded her own publishing agency, DXG Publishing, and relaunched both novels.

Besides travelling, Desiree’s guilty pleasures are binge watching her favorite TV series, shopping sprees, home-made Mexican food, and curling up on the couch with an intense romantic novel; one that sucks you in and then makes you regret that the story has come to an end, for you'll miss its characters for days.

Desiree currently lives (and writes) in the Netherlands with her husband, two children and their adorable Yorkshire Terrier, Mila.
